LaCrosse Men's 8" Quad Comfort 4X8 HD Work Boot

Comment: Bought a pair six year ago. Wore them daily, and some one weekends. Wore them out in three years. That is excellent for the HD use I put them through. After I wore them out, I bought two pairs, which I now alternate.

The previous reviewer is correct, they are not hot weather boots, although you can wear them. My climate is such that the temps hardly ever get above 75 and even those days are rare, so I wear these boots the year round. This is the only negative aspect of the boots that I've discovered.

The boots themselves are comfortable from day one. There is no break-in period, although they do become even more comfortable over time. No blisters, raw spots, pain or discomfort of any kind.

The boots are also extremely waterproof, even as they age. I use them daily around, and in, water. Puddles, or creeks, as long they're below the top of the boots are no problem. The boots stay consistently dry, even as they age.

Ankles and shin are well protected and well cushioned. And, the boots can be laced securely enough to provide support to the ankles while still not being too tight.

The tread on the soles is not pronounced so they shed mud and debris easily. A very nice feature in a waterproof boot.

Personally, I do zero maintenance on the boots, preferring to buy new when they wear out. When the boots of this type, the glued sole type, wear out, they usually do where the leather meets the sole, as there is a sharp edge there. Keeping the leather soft and supple would no doubt prolong the life span of the boot beyond the three years of HD use I expect from them.

Value is excellent for these boots. One frequently reads about getting more than one paid for, and in the case of these boots I happen to believe that it's true. I have actually paid 70% more for boots three times and I still prefer the Lacrosse Quads.

I should mention that I prefer glued sole boots because they have a lower and smaller base, and they tend to be more comfortable. A lower boot is safer as you're not as likely to trip in them, since there's less there for the boot to catch on. If you should twist your ankle you're less likely to get a severe sprain, or even a break, as the boot doesn't have to bend over that extra sole sticking out from the side of the boot.

I love these boots. Waterproof, comfortable, durable. They don't have many reviews here, but do elsewhere, and those reviews are quite positive as well.

Comment: I have a pair of these boots that has hiked through northeastern winter snows and southwestern desert sands. They have served a full season of hard labor landscaping and spent days under the harshest of conditions. And they're still going strong. Hyper-Dri liner (works just like gore-tex) and 3/8 gusset tongue let you step in water without getting your feet wet regardless of the leather's condition (at least until you submerge past the tongue gusset. But, an 8" boot lets you step in some fairly deep puddles). The soles do not seem to have a very aggressive tread, but that's deceptive...these boots have better traction than any of my other boots, some of which have extremely aggressive treads. Comfortable? -Oh yeah. My feet are very particular about shoes and LaCrosse is a name I trust. The glued on sole may be a concern for discriminating boot wearers, but if you keep the leather well conditioned it will hold up to anything you can throw at it. And they look great too.
My first pair has seen almost everything, and still very wearable. I'm getting a second pair to wear while I buff out some scratches and apply some shoe-goo (glue) to one at the toe where it separated, a condition due entirely to me not properly keeping the leather in good health. For that, 'Sno-Proof Weatherproofing' is recommended strongly for winter, and waterproofing 'breathable' sprays for summer. Pricing here with free shipping is almost impossible to beat.
All in all, it's a great boot that does almost anything excellently. Only con that comes to mind: it's not a great summer boot. Even though it's lacking insulation, they get the feet a little too warm on hot days of hard work. And they're made in china. But honestly, what isn't these days :(
