Summary: Unfortunate waste of money given poor fit/pain in feet 2010-02-05
Comment: I purchased these boots roughly four months ago after reading a number of on-line reviews. Unfortunately though these boots just didn't work given the construction of my feet. I am a size 15D with high arches and these boots produce a nagging pain on the top of my feet that I've not been able to solve with different insoles (e.g. Superfeet and others), different lacing strategies, different thicknesses of outer socks etc. I spent a lot of time in these boots - wearing them around the house for hours a day early on to start the break in process, going on short hikes before really taking them out on long hikes. For what it's worth, given my foot construction Danner size 15D boots are a much better fit.
The manufacturing quality is excellent - be aware, the boots squeak. I called Lowa technical support and was told that the black material connecting the tongue to the boot is synthetic (which was surprising given the cost of the boot) and to use some boot paste on it. This seemed to fix the squeak - too bad after months of painful feet these are going into the re-cycle bin.
My recommendation is to go find a place you can try these on and walk around a bit before you buy.
